Lauren Remington Platt was sick of doing her own hair and makeup. She was balancing a 9-5 job in an office and the role of a socialite attending lavish galas when the idea came to her for Vensette.com. The New York Times explains that the website gives us the opportunity of booking appointments with experienced cosmetologists- all in the comfort of our own homes or offices. It’s for girls like Platt, who have little time on their hands, and little expertise in the beauty biz. Instead of applying your makeup in your office’s poorly lit bathroom, like Platt often did, a makeup artist can come to you. The prices aren’t cheap, but they sure are worth it. $325 will get you out the door looking beautiful enough to walk down the red carpet.

Right after Breast Cancer Awareness month, a beauty icon lost her own battle. Evelyn Lauder, wife of Estee Lauder chairman Leonard Lauder, passed away Saturday. The beauty icon began the Estee Lauder company’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. She was highly involved in fragrance creations, as well as many other aspects of the company. According to Allure Magazine’s Daily Beauty Reporter blog, many women turned to her for support and advice about breast cancer survival and awareness. She was said to have a fabulous heart, and a contagious charisma. The beauty world lost a gem this weekend.
If you’re a fan of both beauty and the beautiful Lauren Conrad, then I’ve got some fabulous news. The “Laguna Beach” star turned beauty guru has already released a fashion book and a series of other novels, and now she’s onto one that will cover all of our beauty needs. She recently announced this future project, which will be called Lauren Conrad BEAUTY. On her personal website, she asks fans to comment with any beauty question that they have, in hopes that she will be able to answer everything in this upcoming book. Her beauty blog, thebeautydepartment.com, is absolutely to die for, so there’s no doubt in my mind that this book will be equally amazing! Stay tuned for more information about this amazing news- I’m waiting patiently for this one.
We’ve all come across that one pimple that simply won’t allow you to cover it. You try every concealer, but no matter what, the little red terror shines through it all. Well there’s super-powered concealer on the market now. It’s called Dermablend, and it will cover virtually anything and everything. And I mean everything. Their commercial is absolutely unreal, and proves that the impossible is possible. I’m not going to spoil it for you, just see for yourself. This stuff retails for around $35, and it’s a product that needs to be in every girl’s beauty arsenal. I say that with a very high amount of confidence, ladies.

We all love a good dose of cosmetic history, so here’s a news blast dating back to the time of our cave-ridden ancestors. According to ABC news, cosmetics were found that date back to the caveman era. Maybe these people weren’t as ugly as we assume. Apparently these cavemen used ocher, a pigment derived from the earth, to create cosmetics. Kits used to transform the ocher into actual useable pigment were uncovered by scientists- and they dated back 160,000 years. Seriously, who knew caveman were so beauty-inclined?
